Exotic and Pocket Pet Services
Health and Wellness Checks:
Health and Wellness Visits are a great time to ask any questions you might have. We welcome your questions. No question is too small or too silly, and it is our pleasure to address your concerns. The doctor will take vitals and check to make sure your animal looks and sounds ok. They can discuss any potential concern regarding health, husbandry and behavior, and nutrition. Vaccinations that are recommended for your pet's well-being are also mentioned. We strive to help you understand your pet's health considerations, and we encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your pet's health care.
Diagnostic Checks:
If concerns come up regarding health and further examination is required, the doctor first discusses this with you. We can run labwork (bloodwork and any other diagnostic tests), ultrasound, and radiographs as needed. We discuss everything with the owners first before providing any care in order to come up with a plan that is best for the pet.
Lumpectomy:
If a concern comes up regarding a mass found on the skin, a fine needle aspirate will be made to look at the cells under our microscope. If needed, we can take a biopsy (a piece of tissue) to send to the lab. If deemed necessary, the doctor might recommend removing it and will discuss the process with you when making a plan.
Nail Trims:
Using our nail trim tool or dremel we can trim the nails or your pets when needed.
Beak Trims:
Beak health is an important part of a bird's well-being. We use a special tool, a dremel, in order to help trim the beak as clippers or any cutting method can cause the beak to shatter. If the beak is especially long or if the patient is stressed, we might recommend sessions of trimming or sedation.
Teeth Trims for Rabbits and Guinea Pigs:
As this is a stressful process for the pets, we do use sedation. We also use a special tool, a dremel or a low-speed burr, to trim the teeth down as the use of clippers, or any cutting process, can cause the teeth to crack.
Spay/Neuter:
More so for our guinea pigs, ferrets, and bunnies, we offer the service of spaying or neutering. After a wellness exam has been performed we also require the Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork in order to enhance safety whilst in surgery. Once this has been completed, the doctor will then discuss the next steps needed to prepare your pet pre-surgery.
Once prepped, we will administer anesthesia which will be monitored by a trained technician the whole time. During and after the procedure, we provide warming and monitoring for your pet. We provide pain relief before and after the surgery. We also discuss any extra instructions for optimum healing once on their way home.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call our clinic! One of our client care coordinators will be more than happy to help!
